Who Are We?
Smartlinx 3 Ltd was formed to deploy a fast, open-access broadband network for Porirua and the Hutt Valley. Our shareholders are members of the local community and include three City Councils (Hutt, Porirua and Upper Hutt) as well as the Hutt Mana Charitable Trust. More recently, in order to coordinate our activities both with the government's Broadband Investment Initiative and with the Wellington Regional Strategy, the area in which we will build network has been extended to include Wellington City, the Wairarapa, Kapiti and the Horowhenua.
Our Objective
Our objective is to establish an open, competitive, high-bandwidth telecommunications infrastructure available to the communities and cities in the lower part of the North Island, from Masterton and Horowhenua Districts in the North to Wellington City in the South, so as to create economic and social opportunities for those communities through community and global connectedness.
What Are we Doing Now?
Our fibre-based network now reaches points of presence (POPs) in all three cities; Porirua, Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt. We also have a POP in Wellington, which enables connectivity to other networks, including CityLink, and makes it easier for ISPs to reach us and offer service over our network. We are reaching out from this initial network, using both wireless and fibre, to widen our network coverage. You'll find our network coverage document on our Documents page.
We are now building additional fibre in the three cities. We apologise if our network construction causes you any inconvenience.
We are also the CafeNET zone operator for Porirua and the Hutt Valley.
